Account code

The four-digit number on a ledger account. The first digit tells you the class: 1 assets, 2 liabilities, 3 equity, 4 revenue, 5 cost of goods sold, 6–7 expenses, 8 other income, 9 other expenses.

Codes sort the chart and the trial balance, and they are what accountants ask for. The colored badge next to a code shows its class; the class name is always printed beside it so color is never the only signal.

Codes shown in this glossary are the defaults. Your workspace may renumber; the class ranges are the convention, not a rule the app enforces.

Example

Seeing 6205 on a transaction tells you at a glance it is an operating expense (6xxx), specifically Business Meals in the default chart.

Codes shown are the defaults a new workspace starts with. Yours may be renamed or renumbered — check Accounting › Chart of accounts. See the full default chart.
